Many of my clients come into the studio and immediately say, “I hate having my photo taken.” But I’m totally cool with that. It’s something I’m comfortable with and can work with during the shoot. I also don't like having my photo taken of myself, so I can sympathize!
Here are five things I usually do for studio sessions, to make the experience better.
1. Warm and Friendly Studio Space: I take the time to chat with clients when they arrive and create a friendly atmosphere to help them feel comfortable. I offer refreshments and a private changing and primping area with mirrors and beauty supplies.
2. Music: Continuously providing their favorite music throughout the session helps set the mood and can ease stress.
3. Clear Instructions: Offering guidance on poses and expressions helps the client know what to expect and reduces anxiety about how to look in front of the camera.
4. Distractions: Engaging clients in discussion and directions during the shoot can distract them from their nerves and produce more natural expressions.
5. During the shoot check-ins: We’ll take breaks to look on the computer to monitor our progress and show the client how things are going. This process usually eases anxiety and shows them that they’re looking good.
And the next thing you know, my clients are telling me that the experience was great and their final headshots are the best ever!
