UNC offers breathtaking settings, but think beyond the usual spots.
The Classics: The Old Well, the Bell Tower, and Wilson Library steps.
Business School: The lovely red-brick courtyards and modern amenities create an elegant backdrop ideal for graduation photos and LinkedIn profiles.
UNC School of Law: Many law graduates prefer to commemorate this milestone at their school, often donning tailored suits under their regalia for a sophisticated and professional look.
The Coker Arboretum: Did you study in the grass near the flowers and pathways?
Let me know if you want to try to add in a favorite location in addition to, or instead of, the classics.
Be sure to wear something that’s comfortable and makes you feel confident beneath your gown. Ladies typically wear a dress and sandals and guys typically wear a button up shirt with tie, slacks and nice shoes and socks.
Color Options: White, cream, and soft neutrals beautifully complement Carolina Blue.
Contrast Matters: If you’re wearing a black gown for your Master’s or PhD, steer clear of a black outfit underneath—it can fade into the background in photos.
The Wrinkle Rule: Steam your gown as soon as it arrives! While I can retouch images, digitally removing wrinkles isn’t possible. If you need to iron, use low heat with a fabric barrier to prevent damage.
Gentlemen - We might catch a glimpse of your socks while seated. And don't forget about grooming your beard and nose hairs!
Ladies - If wearing nail polish, ensure it’s fresh and unchipped. Use hair spray to manage any flyaway hairs.
Think about including fun items like:
A personalized graduation cap.
Your favorite mug from Open Eye or Perennial.
A Rameses plush toy or your treasured student ID.
A celebratory bottle of champagne (just remember to pop it away from crowded areas).
Please Note: No-confetti and no-glitter policy for environmental reasons. Cleanup can be difficult and harmful.
Props aren’t mandatory; sometimes, focusing purely on you makes for the best experience.
5. HAVE FUN!
This is a special time in your life so let's enjoy the experience and try not to stress over the little things. Let's have fun!
